Shem Creek, the bustling restaurant hub of Mt. Pleasant, just across the harbor from Charleston is definitely one of the charms of the Lowcountry. Aligned by a brand new boardwalk and panoramic views of the creek and harbor, Shem Creek offers one of the best places to get a glimpse of a working waterfront of shrimp boats and commercial fishing. This tour highlights the history of Shem Creek and old Mt Pleasant. Guests will visit three creekside restaurants to enjoy a curated cocktail at each stop paired with a taste of Lowcountry cuisine, closely tied to the surrounding saltwater.
Even though Shem Creek has been a Charleston area “must see” for decades, Bulldog Tours is the only tour company to offer a culinary history tour of this scenic destination.
Eat Like a Local
It doesn’t get much more local than this experience. The shrimp served on this tour was likely unloaded from a boat docked a block from the restaurant. The menu for this tour includes seafood at each stop.
Make a memory
Creek and marsh wildlife sightings are one of the things that makes this place so special. Guests are encouraged to take pictures, and if you want, bring a lock to leave on the boardwalk railing.

It was loads of fun. Great food, wonderful storytelling guide who loved her town and shared it with us. We had a great time with food and conversation. I would go again.Sarah C - Tripadvisor
What a cool tour! The food was fantastic (and lots of it) and the setting was beautiful. It’s definitely a good choice if you’re a shrimp lover. We even saw dolphins and our guide taught us how to throw a shrimp. Highly recommend it!Lanie C - Google Reviews

What food will we be tasting?
The history and location of this tour dictate a menu that is seafood-heavy and several popular dishes such as Shrimp and Grits will be served. This tour also includes a cocktail at each stop.
What if I have allergies or dietary restrictions?
We do our best to accommodate the special dietary needs of our guests, however we can't guarantee all stops will be able to do so. When you book a food tour, let us know about any dietary needs/preferences (eg. allergies, vegetarian, kosher, gluten-free) and your guide will help identify items you might want to avoid.
How much food is served on the tour?
Our food tastings and portions are generous and roughly equal to a good-sized lunch. We recommend coming to the tour with an appetite as most guests leave comfortably full.
What if it rains?
We present tours rain or shine, unless the conditions are dangerous. Charleston is famous for its summer afternoon passing showers.
How much walking is involved?
Our tours cover approximately one and a half miles of walking and we move at a relaxed and leisurely pace. On our food tours, you’ll have regular opportunities to sit down during tastings.
What if I am hard of hearing?
