Tour Overview

Charleston’s flare for hospitality and entertaining is known worldwide. Our reputation for serving creative, delicious, artisanal cocktails is also far-reaching, but the stories of the history behind this notoriety isn’t as well known. Walk a few blocks with our licensed guide to visit the three of our favorite, upscale lounges, and learn about how this Colonial port city became known as one of the best places to raise a toast.

Save Time & Experience More

With so much to see and do in Charleston, you’ll find there’s simply not enough time to do it all. Our food and cocktail tours let you experience the best of our local cuisine and cocktails in just a few short hours.

Drink Like a Local

Using locally sourced ingredients, the cocktails on this tour are carefully curated and they help to tell the story of Charleston’s history with alcohol, which is inextricably interwoven with Charleston’s larger impact on Colonial America.

Small Group Experience

In contrast to other tours in town, we keep our food tours to 12 guests or less. This means a more relaxed and casual experience, with more access to your guide and our friendly vendors.

Get Oriented

Our knowledgeable, local guides will help you navigate the city, answer your questions and offer personalized recommendations for after your tour - giving you the best possible start to your visit.

What Our Guests are Saying

Our tour guide was fantastic. She was very enthusiastic in her stories and added her personal encounters. We have booked multiple tours with Bulldog and have never been disappointed.

Lynn - Google Reviews

Great tour guide was knowledgeable, personable. AMAZING drinks. I really never thought of myself as a tour type of person, but I would absolutely do this again. And would look forward to it.

Karin - Tripadvisor

Cheers! This tour is a mix of cocktails and Charleston history and we loved it. The hotels that we went to were beautiful and the bars were great.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do the Tour Activity Levels mean?

    • EASY – Walking tours are designed for a leisurely pace but may include uneven sidewalks, some stairs and a combination of walking and standing for up to two hours.
    • MODERATE – Tours will include a more active pace at times including stairs and uneven terrain. Expect to be on your feet for the duration of the tour covering a minimum of a mile and half of the area.
    • ACTIVE – A high physical activity level is required to walk and climb narrow stairs. This tour is not recommended for guests who require canes or walkers.

  • What food will we be tasting?

History and cocktails are the focus of this tour and no food is included.

  • What if I have allergies or dietary restrictions?

We do our best to accommodate the special dietary needs of our guests, however we can't guarantee all stops will be able to do so. When you book a food tour, let us know about any dietary needs/preferences (eg. allergies, vegetarian, kosher, gluten-free) and your guide will help identify items you might want to avoid.

  • How much food is served on the tour?

Guests are served three cocktails during the course of the tour, but no food is served.

  • What if it rains?

We present tours rain or shine, unless the conditions are dangerous. Charleston is famous for its summer afternoon passing showers.

  • How much walking is involved?

Our tours cover approximately one and a half miles of walking and we move at a relaxed and leisurely pace. On our food tours, you’ll have regular opportunities to sit down during tastings.

  • What if I am hard of hearing?

Our professional guides are skilled public speakers and work hard to make sure everyone can hear during the tour. If you are hard of hearing, please let your guide know and we’ll ensure you get a front-row seat.

  • Is parking available?

    For Downtown Tours:
There are a few precious metered parking spaces throughout the Historic District, though they require constant feeding. For our 10 pm tours, meter parking is free. Otherwise, we recommend parking in a paid lot, parking at the Visitors Center and riding the Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH), or parking in one of the garages around The City Market. Here are some suggestions:

    Charleston Parking
51 PINCKNEY STREET CHARLESTON, SC 29401

    Cumberland Street Garage
82 CUMBERLAND STREET CHARLESTON, SC 29401

    Concord/Cumberland Parking Garage
1 CUMBERLAND STREET CHARLESTON, SC 29401

  • What if I need to cancel or change my booking?

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a FULL refund. If you need to change or modify your tickets, simply call us at 843-722-TOUR (8687). We offer trip protection which ensures a refund within the 24 hours prior to the tour if you need to cancel.

  • What if I am unhappy with the tour?

Our #1 priority at Bulldog Tours is giving great tours. If you don't have a great experience, let us know and we promise to make it right with a full refund or voucher for a future visit.

  • Are bathrooms available during the tour?

Restrooms are available at our office where the tour begins. Although there may be restrooms available along the tour route, we encourage guests to use the restroom before starting a tour because our guides will not interrupt the tour for bathroom stops.

  • Are tours offered only in English?

Yes, we only offer tours in English at this time. Please email or call us if you would like to make arrangements for your own interpreter to join the tour.

  • Should I tip my Bulldog tour guide?

If you feel your tour guide has provided a great experience, gratuities are encouraged— and welcomed—at the end of your tour. We believe that recognizing excellent service is a personal matter, though 15-20% of your booking fee is a good rule of thumb. Gratuities for your guide are always appreciated, but never expected.

  • Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

Advanced purchase is strongly recommended, as tours often sell out well in advance. To maximize your chances of getting the day and time you prefer, please book well in advance.

  • What if I still have questions?

We’re here to help! Simply call us at 843-722-TOUR (8687) if you have any additional questions or concerns.

  • Yes. Guests are served three cocktails throughout the course of the tour.

PRIVATE GROUP TOURS
