Tour Overview
Come aboard the USS Yorktown to hear the stories of the American heroes who lived, died, and are still rumored to be here today. Commissioned in 1943, the “Fighting Lady” was once manned by over 3,000 people and designed to fight off enemies all over the globe during WWII. This tour gives you exclusive night time access to areas of the ship that are closed to the public, including access to the flight deck after dark. Tour takes place aboard the USS Yorktown in Mt Pleasant, a 10 minute drive from downtown. Transportation is not included in the price of the tour.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What do the Tour Activity Levels mean?
- EASY – Walking tours are designed for a leisurely pace but may include uneven sidewalks, some stairs and a combination of walking and standing for up to two hours.
- MODERATE – Tours will include a more active pace at times including stairs and uneven terrain. Expect to be on your feet for the duration of the tour covering a minimum of a mile and half of the area.
- ACTIVE – A high physical activity level is required to walk and climb narrow stairs. This tour is not recommended for guests who require canes or walkers.
-
Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?
Advanced purchase is strongly recommended, as tours often sell out well in advance. To maximize your chances of getting the day and time you prefer, please book well in advance.
-
What if it rains?
Tours will go on rain or shine. If there is a hurricane in Charleston at the time of the tour, there is no need to show up. We will be busy boarding up windows or throwing a Hurricane Party. (Seriously though, we run in every kind of weather). Please note that the Flight Deck will not be accessible in inclement weather.
-
Is the tour wheelchair- and/or stroller-accessible?
Because of the narrow stairs and tight passageways, this tour is not conducive to wheelchairs and strollers. Ask about our private tours that can be offered with accommodations in mind.
-
How much walking? Is it a fast paced tour?
Most of the walking for this tour is done as guests approach the aircraft carrier. There are narrow passageways, steps and ladders on the tour, but walking is light to moderate.
-
Do I need a flashlight?
Your tour guide is equipped with a flashlight to guide the way as well as to gesture and gather attention to objects relevant to their stories.
-
Is the tour scary?
Different things scare different people. However, these tours are primarily story-based experiences. Nothing should jump out in front of you, and if it does, we recommend you run!
-
Is it appropriate for kids?
We feel that all of our ghost tours are appropriate for kids with the exception of the Haunted Jail tour which is offered for ages 12 and up.
-
Do we go through a graveyard?
This tour takes place aboard the USS Yorktown and does not include a graveyard.
-
What if I am hard of hearing?
Our professional guides are skilled public speakers and work hard to make sure everyone can hear during the tour. If you are hard of hearing, please let your guide know and we’ll ensure you get a front-row seat.
-
Is parking available?
Onsite parking is available at an hourly rate for tours aboard the USS Yorktown.
-

-
Are tours offered only in English?
Yes, we only offer tours in English at this time. Please email or call us if you would like to make arrangements for your own interpreter to join the tour.
-
Should I tip my Bulldog tour guide?
If you feel your tour guide has provided a great experience, gratuities are encouraged— and welcomed—at the end of your tour. We believe that recognizing excellent service is a personal matter, though 15-20% of your booking fee is a good rule of thumb. Gratuities for your guide are always appreciated, but never expected.
